LEGO® display case: what it really protects
You are looking for a LEGO® display case to protect a set that took you dozens of hours to build. The intention is right, and sometimes a display case really is the answer. Only sometimes. This page says honestly what a display case solves, what it does not solve, and when a wall display does the job better.
Let us be clear straight away: Kadris® does not make closed display cases. We make aluminium wall displays designed set by set. If, after reading this page, you conclude that you need a display case, buy a display case. We would rather tell you than sell you the wrong product.
What a LEGO® display case really solves
A display case is a closed volume, usually in PMMA acrylic or in glass, standing on a piece of furniture or fixed to the wall. It brings three concrete things.
- Dust. This is its first argument, and it is a real one. An open set collects dust in every gap between bricks.
- Physical protection. Children, pets, the swing of a broom handle: a rigid wall takes what a bare set cannot take.
- Ultraviolet light. High end models are UV treated and slow down the yellowing of white and grey pieces exposed to direct light.
On these three points, a well chosen display case does the job. No wall display does it in its place.
What a display case does not solve
Here is what the sales pitch usually leaves out.
- It takes up the space. A display case for a large set takes as much room as a piece of furniture. The original problem, the lack of space, comes back in through the window.
- It costs a lot per set. Expect €65 to €310 per case from French manufacturers, more for XXL formats. For a collection of ten sets, the bill becomes a furniture budget.
- It reflects. Acrylic bounces light back. In a lit room, you often see the reflection as much as the model.
- It cuts the set off from the room. A set under a cover stays a collector's item sitting in a corner. It does not become a decorative piece.
- It has to be assembled. Most arrive as a kit, with screws and connecting cubes, and a protective film to peel off without scratching.

The reading is simple. If your absolute priority is to protect the set, get a display case. If your priority is to free up space and turn the set into a decorative feature, the wall display is made for that, and the display case is not.
When the wall display wins
Three situations come up again and again with our customers.
1. The collection is overflowing
Past three or four large sets, the furniture is full. The wall, meanwhile, is empty. A wall display takes no floor space and accepts several models on the same surface.
2. The set deserves a staging
A Millennium Falcon under a cover stays a Millennium Falcon under a cover. The same model placed on a printed visual that extends its universe becomes a piece guests notice before they realise it is LEGO®.
3. The room is a walkway
Living room, office, hallway: a display case on the floor is an obstacle. A wall display is not.
How a set holds on a Kadris® wall display
That is the question that comes next. Mounts dedicated to your model are already screwed onto the wall display when it arrives. Your assembled set sits straight onto them: no dismantling, no glue, no modification to a single piece. It is held firmly and can be removed at any time, without tools.
Before shipping, the strength of every wall display is checked with the set in place. That is a real check, not a marketing claim.
What if I want both?
That choice makes sense. The most fragile sets, or the ones most exposed to direct light, under a display case; the iconic sets on the wall. We do not sell display cases, so we have no interest in pushing you one way or the other.

Look at three criteria: the thickness of the acrylic, 3 mm and up for a large volume, the presence of a UV treatment, and the real internal dimensions compared with those of your built set, not those of the box.
