LEGO® Technic Solar System Planets in Orbit 42254: Price and Release Date

LEGO® Technic has unveiled a set that changes scale. After Earth and the Moon, it's now the entire solar system spinning in the hands of space and engineering fans.

A solar system that really spins

Set 42254 Solar System Planets in Orbit recreates the eight planets of the solar system around the Sun. A central crank drives a gear mechanism that moves each planet at its own speed. Mercury spins fastest, Venus slowest. The proportions are playful rather than scientifically exact, but the effect is striking.

Each planet and the Sun carry an information plate with real data: diameter, orbital period, distance from the Sun. The set works as a display piece and a teaching tool at once.

Heir to a small LEGO® Technic hit

This new set draws directly on 42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit, released in 2024 with 526 pieces and showing only Earth and the Moon. LEGO® Technic takes the idea further, scaling it up to the whole solar system with 572 pieces and a width of more than 38 cm once built.

The set joins a space-focused Technic lineup alongside 11382 Hubble Space Telescope and 42221 NASA Artemis Space Launch System Rocket.

Price, pieces and release date

LEGO® Technic 42254 Solar System Planets in Orbit will retail at €99.99. It includes 572 pieces and will be available from January 1, 2027. The set is recommended from age 10 and comes with 3D digital instructions in the LEGO® Builder app.

A Kadris® wall art piece to showcase this feat of engineering

A motorized LEGO® Technic solar system deserves a display worthy of it. At Kadris®, a custom wall art piece can already be ordered to showcase this set once built, on the custom orders page.
